Keeping the Lights on at Patch

May 11th, 2020

The arts community have been hit hard by COVID-19. At Patch we are making sure we support local artists and arts workers as best we can. We are continuing to create new work for children and their families and exploring new ways to connect with our audiences.

New work in collaboration with Gravity and other Myths

We have started the creative development of our next work in collaboration with Gravity and Other Myths.

Inspired by the The Story of Ferdinand, this show explores testosterone-fuelled energy. Featuring Gravity and Other Myth’s signature and disarming acrobatic style, the show combines science and physical magic. It will begin important dialogue around children, their role models and the methods we use to teach socialisation and encourage empathy.

We have been blown away by the skills of these acrobats and are excited about the development of this important work.

Bringing the magic of theatre to the classroom – Spark

Spark is a travelling show in a box – a collection of interactive activities to be delivered to schools in SA and then the world. This DIY learning experience brings innovative light and technology based activities direct to the classroom. The students’ creative outcomes are shared with all the schools involved, creating a network of experiences across the globe.

While this project was originally planned with a 2021 launch date, we feel that it is something the world needs now.

Currently in creative development, Spark will have its first trails at SA schools in term four of this year!

Making The Lighthouse shine

After a hugely successful premiere season, The Lighthouse was set to tour the country. Unfortunately this tour has been postponed, however we are using this time to update the set, costumes and props for their cross-country journey. In 2021 The Lighthouse will tour to Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.

Local artists are busy planning, refining and creating to make sure The Lighthouse shines bright across the country as soon as we can.

To support the future of The Lighthouse and forever be a part of this innovative work, donate to our Sponsor a Light campaign.

Sharing the light with families – activities for home

We have created a series of fun educational activities for families to try at home.

We create a lot of magic on stage in our shows, but here's your chance to try creating your own special effects at home.

Create a rainbow light show with a CD, make stunning light paintings and more – all while learning about the principles of light.

All activities include discussion questions and links to further learning.
